Fire and Emergency Medical Services

d

Oakridge Fire and Emergency Medical Services operates out of a single fire station and is comprised of a career staff of one Training Captain, two Lieutenant/Paramedics and one Firefigher/Paramedic who are represented by Lane County Professional Firefighters IAFF Local 851. Staffing is also provided by part-time Firefighter/Paramedic or EMT-Intermediates, and approximately 15 fire and or EMS volunteers.

Oakridge Fire and Emergency Medical Services provides fire suppression and ambulance services to the citizens of Oakridge, Westfir and Hazeldell Rural Fire District, as well as the outlying areas. Our ambulance service area stretches over 2,200 square miles going from milepost 17 to the Klamath County Line on Highway 58. In 2018 Oakridge Fire & EMS responded to just shy of 1,000 incidents.

If you are a home owner in the Cities of Oakridge or Westfir and/or Hazeldell Rural Fire Protection District, your home owner’s insurance premiums maybe decreased thanks to a new Insurance Services Office (ISO) rating of Oakridge Fire & EMS. In Early 2016 the Department completed an in depth review by ISO. From that review Oakridge Fire & EMS was able to reduce its rating from a “5” to a “4” in areas that have a hydrant system. From an “8” to a “5” in areas that are within 5 miles of a fire station, but do not have a hydrant system. From a “10” to a “10W” in areas that are within 5 to 7 miles of a fire station and have no hydrant system. In ISO’s rating system they use a 1-10 scale. The lower the number the better the agencies rating is. The rating system is designed to reflect how quickly and efficiently a firefighting force is able to respond to a fire emergency. Check with your insurance agent to make sure your insurance premiums reflect these new rates. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact us.

Burning and heating regulations in Oakridge are administered through Lane Regional Air Protection Agency (LRAPA).  Information regarding air quality, backyard burning, and the use of wood stoves can be found at lrapa.org, or by calling LRAPA at 541-736-1056. Check before you burn!
